Beagles: Helping Us Better Understand Medicine
Dogs like these help scientists understand how new medicines work in the body before they are tested in people. In certain studies called "pharmacokinetics(PK)," these dogs may receive small doses of a new drug, and blood samples are collected to see how the drug moves through the system. After a rest period called a "washout," some dogs may join another study. These studies are designed with animal safety and well-being in mind.
